Can someone suggest few good night clubs, also some details about trip to Icacos Island .. Also since we r not staying in PR for too long so can some one suggest what wud be the best 2-3 beaches that we can hit alongwith some other activites that we can do in that time frame?

I appreciate any responses in advance.

  1. Hi. I suggest you rent a car. For your day in Old San Juan you wont need it, there is public transit there, but the 2 days you need to go to the east coast you will need it. Go to Thrifty, Payless or Dollar car rental by the airport. You can get an economy car for about $30 per day.

When you go to el Yunque wear something you can get wet in so you can swim in the waterfalls & also rubber shoes b/c its slippery. Afterwards you should go to Luquillo beach or seven stars beach close by. Then eat dinner & head over to Las Croabas bioluminescent lagoon in Fajardo. You can kayak in the glowing water :) or you can save this for the next day after Icacos since you will be in Fajardo then anyway.

San Juan's best beach is Isla Verde. Its not that great, but its decent. Like Miami Beach, it just wont compare to Icacos. Anyway San Juan has alot of great bars, pubs & nightclubs. I included a link that will help you. Also its 4th of July so there will be celebrations in San Juan. Goodluck!

  2. You sound like you have a good plan so far.  You HAVE TO rent  a car- public transportation stinks!

Here is the thing-  over the 4th of July weekend, it will be busy everywhere.  We here in PR have a long vacation weekend too, so we do touring to the exact same places that you want to go.  It will be great at the clubs at night- lots of people and activity.

When going to the rainforest, you will need to go EARLY, and park where you can easily get out.  By mid-day, it will be FULL of locals having picnics (the same applies for beaches).

Old San Juan - if you want to go to the museums, go on Friday  or Saturday.  Sunday, they will be closed (not the forts- they are open every day except Christmas!).

If you are not "into" snorkeling  and are just looking for a private beach, call Capt Mingo and see which he recommends for that weekend.  Icacos can get busy with locals.  He might have another beach that is more "private".  Cayes Ratones or  Palominitos maybe....

Or go late in the day/evening for some real private beach time.

Info on Icacos and Capt Mingo's contact info:

Nightclubs- Brava in El San Juan hotel is the "best". In Old San Juan Nuyorican Cafe is great.

Check out www. Puertoricandaytriscom for more ideas of things to do.  There is ziplines, ATV rides, snorkeling, horseback riding, lots of beaches- Monserate Balneario in Luquillo is nice and Seven Seas beach in Fajardo...

If you can swing it on a week day, go to Culebra Flamenco beach- the BEST beach( in my opinion)  on PR.

You are here such a short time- stick to the NE of the island.  Some of the other suggestions would have you driving 2+ hrs to the SW and Mayaguez.   Save these great areas for another trip.

  3. well, Puerto Rico does not celebrate the 4th of july like they do in the US, do not expect fireworks and celebrations (since PR is not a US state or Incorporated territory and it's own independence and sovereignty is still heavily debated and contested).

You will need to rent a car outside San Juan metro area.

In the north region nice clubs are mostly located in San Juan (depending on your taste, for example the historic district has many straight hip lounges and bars around Calle San Sebastian and Calle Fortaleza among other).

My favorite beaches are in the Southwest part of Puerto Rico , but you are traveling North east, so in that area i would say Luquillo as the best beach (see link below)

  4. coooooooool i am going to san juan on the morning of 4th of july, (im arriving there in the morning) lol sorry im going to stay with my family.. im so exicted its been 3 years :) good luck and have fun!

  5. That's great! I am from Puerto Rico and for July 4 usually everyone goes to the beach to party or they go out to some clubs, but it depends on the area. San Juan and the metro area is more of "party" and nightlife area.

If you want to relax for a while, just go to Old San Juan, but in San Juan there is really not much relaxing. You should check out Mayaguez, Vega Alta, Toa Baja, etc. Also be careful at night when you guys go out and if you stay in San Juan make sure you know how to get to the hotel, etc.

Your plans sound very good. A day in Old San Juan is hella fun! I remember I went and I got to feed some pigeons and get a nice cup of coffee, it is great especially in the evening and morning.

Any club in San Juan must be pretty good, what the clubs play is mostly techno, reggaeton (official music of PR), and hip-hop, etc

The best beaches? FAJARDOOOO!!!! Fajardo is like the capital of awesome beaches. It has lots of hotels and is farther than San Juan, about an hour away from San Juan, it is located at the peak of the east of Puerto Rico. It's truly great, or you could hit Isabela, it's like the "Florida" of Puerto Rico. Jobos Beach is great, it's in Isabela.

Other activities would be going to the mall and movies. The best theatrre is CineVista in Mayaguez.

And mall, of course. Plaza del Caribe is the biggest mall in the caribbean. It has maaany brands like Lacoste, Roxy, Billabong, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, all of that. PR also has outlets with all of these brands in Barceloneta and Canovanas.

And I suggest you rent your own car, much better and safer

    ENJOY!
