Puerto Rico Open: Lucas Glover withdraws from another tournament – Golf News
Lucas Glover, who was scheduled to play the Puerto Rico Open at the Trump International in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, pulled himself out of the event because of the knee injury he suffered on December 31st, 2011, in a freak paddle boarding accident.
According to Glover, he was hopeful to make his season debut in Puerto Rico. However, he is advised to rest for one more week in order to completely recover from the injury.
Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard’s tweet on Monday afternoon stated that he spotted Glover mentioning his knee to recover in a day or two.
Therefore, he is finally ready to make his 2012 debut in the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay.
Glover has missed all the tournaments that he was scheduled to play in the first quarter of the season because of the incident that happened in Maui, where he reached to participate in the PGA Tour’s season opener, the Tournament of Champions.
Following his injury and missing the first event of the season, he reached the field of Sony Open, as he felt that he had recovered quickly from the sprained knee.
However, in the practice round, he had to announce his withdrawal from the tournament, as he again experienced pain.
According to Glover, he was getting better with the passage of time. However, he did not want to take the risk, which could have, in turn, worsened his situation.
At the venue of Puerto Rico Open, he again felt that he should give his knee a little more time to ensure that it will not create any further problems in future.
Tommy Gainey is another player who announced his withdrawal because of an injury. He was participating in last week’s Honda Classic when he felt pain in his wrist prior to the start of second round at PGA National.
He expressed, "Not the week I had in mind. Just got back from doctor. Have fluid in hand and around tendons in my wrist. Inflamed a lot too. Resting now!"
Following the tournament’s finish on Sunday, he told his fans through twitter that he will see his doctor on Monday and decide about his schedule accordingly.
He was then told that he will recover in a week or two, which will enable him to play the Transitions Championship in the following week of Puerto Rico Open.
"I got good news rest the wrist this week. I will be ready to play next week at The Transitions!!"
