Puerto Rico Open: another tournament withdrawal from Tommy Gainey - Golf News
Tommy Gainey pulled himself out of the Puerto Rico Open scheduled to take place from March 8 to 11, 2012 at the Trump International Golf Club - Puerto Rico · Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
He suffered a wrist injury during last week’s Honda Classic at PGA National, and was, therefore, forced to withdraw.
Gainey looked disappointed, as it was the third time he withdrew from any tournament in the last seven starts he made in the season.
When he announced his withdrawal from the Honda Classic, he tweeted:
"Not the week I had in mind. Just got back from doctor. Have fluid in hand and around tendons in my wrist. Inflamed a lot too. Resting now!”
Two days later, on Sunday, he was again asked by one of his fans on Twitter about his injury.
He responded by saying that he would be visiting the doctor on Monday, where he is expected to be given an updated report about whether he will be able to play the coming events or not.
"I will find out more info on my wrist tomorrow,” he tweeted on Sunday evening.
According to Gainey, he was told by his physician that his injury is not serious and he was in a good position to recover within a week.
Therefore, he needs complete rest for the whole week, which sidelined him from the Puerto Rico Open.
Consequently, he confirmed his withdrawal in order to completely recover from his injury and display good performances in the upcoming events.
He is confident to play the Transitions Championship that is scheduled to begin in the following week of Puerto Rico Open.
"I got good news rest the wrist this week. I will be ready to play next week at The Transitions!!" he tweeted after a comprehensive examination with the doctors.
Gainey’s withdrawal from the event marked his third of the year, as he already withdrew from Waste Management Phoenix Open and Honda Classic earlier.
He said that he is disappointed to withdraw from three events early in the season.
However, if he recovers and plays good golf in the upcoming events, he will be able to cheer his fans and gain some momentum.
