Question:

Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands... good stays?

We are looking for great hotels, private cottages, condos, etc either in Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands that make for a great vacation, and are relaxing and convenient to attractions, such as sailboating, parasailing, shopping, etc.

The stay would need to be reasonably priced, from $150-$250 a night, ocean/beach front, and nice, of course.

Please let us know!!!

Thanks!

  1. We stayed in the Caribe Hilton in San Juan PR and loved it.  It's got a great selection of restaurants, great pools, private beach which was never crowded.

The best shopping area is in Old San Juan, but if you want a relaxing hotel, I would stay away from hotels directly in Old San Juan.  Cruise ships are coming in and out daily with tons of people getting off.

  2. El Conquistador in Fajardo is a beautiful hotel that is right on the ocean. They even own a private island called Palomino island. They take you over on a small boat & you can relax  on thewhite sand all day. This is also close to El Yunque Rain Forrest & the bioluminescent lagoon (the water glows in the dark when touched). Also from Fajrdo there are ferries that go to Culebra, Vieques & St. Thomas VI, vwhich makes Fajardo a great spot. It is a 45 min drive from San Juan.

The rooms cost about $230 a night but it is worth it. If you would like to stay in Fajardo but this is too pricey then you can go to the Fajardo Inn which is about $115 a night. It is nice, but not as nice as El conquistador, & I am not sure if its by the ocean or not.

The Embassy Suites in Dorado is also very nice. Dorado is about a 25 min drive from San Juan. This hotel cost under $200 per night & you will get a suite which makes it very nice. They have a nice pool & a private beach. There is a great lounge inside where live salsa bands perform on weekends.

In San Juan there are quite a lot of good hotels. However not all of them are  beachfront & for a good price. You can check out the San Juan Water & Beach club hotel. It is on the beach & it costs about $210 a night.

Or if you want you can check out Culebra & Vieques islands. They are very nice to stay also. Enjoy :)

  3. I would check out this hotel www.hotelcasagrande.com it is located in the mountain region of puerto rico (Utuado).  It is not super close to many attractions but rather an attraction in and of itself.  it has a restful/relaxing environment and is off the beaten path for most.

  4. The good thing about staying in El Conquistador is that you are in the east coast of Puerto Rico which means that you are not far away from the U.S. Virgin Islands thus taking a day trip would be ideal and a great vacation experience. I'm sure, if you stay in El Conquistador, the help desk will offer many tour options to get to the Virgin Island via boats and or small planes. I'm also sure that El Conquistador has an 800 number where you can call and ask for information on tour packages that they may offer. Ask if there are any special discount deals on these tours if you stay X amount of days at the property. Make sure you call both places with the same questions by calling directly to the hotel and the franchise. You may be surprise how one can offer something that the other can not. Good luck!

  5. The Conquistador  in Fajardo  is  great..
