Puerto Rico in July: safest, coolest, most beautiful beach town?

I'm planning to go to Puerto Rico for 2+ weeks in July and I need help figuring out which town to call home. I plan to lounge on the beach, eat delicious food and salsa at night.

My ideal situation:

-an inexpensive apartment w/a kitchen

-a beach w/in walking distance

-safety (I'm a female traveling alone)

-mild weather (don't want to fry!)

-delicious food

-places to go salsa dancing at night

Thanks in advance!

  1. Stay in Condado, you'll have all that. I don't think its inexpensive though. Or you could try Rincon.

  2. well, u have 2 options in PR depending on your description. u have san juan condado, which is beach, nightlife, great foods and salsa. but the condos/apartment and hotels are very expensive. ur other option its, the western side of the island called porta del sol, breathtaking beautiful beaches, food, i dont know about to much clubs, its more a relaxing place compared to san juan. and apartments are cheaper. about the sun, well in july its hot everywhere you go. unless u live in the country side which is the central part of the island. u could also go to the eastern part of the island and check out the little islands of vieques and culebra. i love culebra, its beautiful. the southern part of the island its the hottest and very dry, not to crazy about it, but still has some amazing tourist views in ponce and other pueblos. have fun!

  3. I'll say Ocean Park if you're planning on staying in San Juan or Rincon if you are going to the west side. take care Raul

  4. Alright I know that maybe you dont wana even pay 800+ per night but i recomend you SAN JUAN. San Juan have all the amenities that you a woman would need. In the place of hotels i recomend you CARIBE HILTON, EL CONDADO PLAZA, SHERATON and EL CONVENTO all of them in th eold San Juan. They are great hotels at just 200 per night that is a little expensive but a great choice. At San Juan you have many rest. where you would feel like home and even you could eat boricuas food that have a great touch. If you wana have an active night i recommend you EL CONDADO where all the night you would be dancing, singing even drinking cuz its a great place for those things. You could go walking in 10 minutes and see the place or go on taxi it svery very near of old san Juan. Well in safety you have to be always pendent of people but dont worry cuz never in life have hapend something WOW. In the weather its always SUnny not to hot not to cold always normal. Beach uhhh you could go to ISLA VERDE where the beach is one of th ebest 20 minutes walking, 5 in taxi. That its is so enjoy and WELCOME TO PR. KISS KISS

  5. San Juan has all the nightlife & tons of restaraunts & tourists. It is a city, so decide if you want to be in a city or a more laid back quiet town.. ?? Also San Juan doesnt have the best beaches. Isla Verde is nice, but not the best on the island. Also San Juan is expensive.

The absolute best beaches are on Vieques & Culebra Islands. These islands are very safe & very quiet with good food & you can get an apt cheaper than San Juan. However, there isn't much nightlife. There are restaraunt/bars with dancing & drinks, but they close pretty early. Vieques does have the biobay too which is beautiful to see at night.

Some places on the west coast & south coast of PR have great beaches, food, bars & are cheaper than San Juan also. Look into Rincon, Cabo Rojo, Guanica, etc. Ponce is a city also, just smaller.

Maybe you can do one week in one section of PR & one week in another section. That would be my suggestion. Look at vacation rentals on http://puertorico.en.craigslist.org/vac/ & http://www.clasificadosonline.com/

    & also check out  http://www.gotoparadores.com/

  6. in Cuba there is beautiful beaches too, very warm and very safe too look in the Internet maybe one day you want to go tourist people get great time because  the government give them a lot things to have a great time and also you  will see a lot of people dancing in the beach at night and also in the day.

try to visit  one day and you will feel very good there.

  7. July is hot everywhere in PR but is better outside of the city.  San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde areas are VERY expensive and are not the best beaches.  Now if you got to Vieques or Culebra you will have what you wanted except for the Salsa dancing, at least in Vieques.  I don't know about Culebra but in Vieques there is only one place on Sat that has Salsa dancing, there are other things to do at night(be prepare to drink every night).  Don't fall into the stereotype that to come to the Caribbean and have a good time you have to Salsa at night as seen in the movies.  As I mentioned before, I know about Vieques because is the Island I'm familiar with but do look into Culebra also.

PS.  These Islands are not dirt cheap but in the summer is low season and I'm giving you the best source of info, this local newspaper is awesome, has all the business.  If you do decide to go and have questions feel free to ask. Have a great time!
