Puerto Rico prepares to take on defending champions Brazil – 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League
The 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League is just around the corner.
The men’s elite volleyball competition will take centre stage on May 27, 2011, while 16 best teams of the world will join the battle for supremacy. Puerto Rico is one of the lucky contenders, which qualified for this year’s edition of FIVB World League.
This is the first time that Puerto Rico will be featuring in the FIVB World League.
Hence, it is quite a big challenge for Puerto Rican squad to exhibit up to mark performance. The team has been placed in Pool A, which has defending champions Brazil, Olympic Champion Team USA and Poland. All other pool members of Puerto Rico have great
name in the Volleyball world. Puerto Rico will open the tournament by taking on Brazil, which will surely be tough encounter.
Puerto Rican team has done well at national level and they have earned good fame in recent years. The Puerto Rican team is headed by coach Ramon Hernandez who has urged his players to be realistic. He said it is big challenge but his team is never afraid
of taking up challenges. He is hopeful that the team will perform and will stay at the podium of FIVB World League.
Likewise, the President of National Volleyball Federation of Puerto Rico Nelson Perez Cruz encouraged the team to avail this wonderful activity. He is confident about the team of 20 best athletes from Puerto Rico.
Perez stated, “We are awaiting the final cut of the team that will play the first day of the tournament next week. The important thing is we have the best 20 players in the country and among them are captain, Hector "Picky" Soto, a three-time French champion
in Victor "Vitito" Rivera, and Gregory Berrios. We have also combined the selection with youth players such as Juan Figueroa, Angel Perez, Enrique Escalante and Fernando Morales.”
He further added that Brazil is one of the strongest teams of the championship. They have vast experience in the sport and have many superstars of the game. Hence, it will be tough encounter with Brazilian Team at the FIVB World League.
