  1. Heavy crime in Puerto Vallarta? NEVER!

PV is actually safer than Irvine (the safest US city for 2007).

People are super-super-friendly, and you can walk in the Malecon at midnight or 4am in the morning without EVER feeling unsafe. Crime is basically unheard of down there, except maybe for the rare pick-pocketer doing his round picking up purses or handbags left unattended.

Go there, you'll have the time of your life (town is gorgeous and there's so many things to do....)

  2. The crime in the pacific coast usually is referred to Sinaloa state, northern than Jalisco state (where is Puerto Vallarta); or Tijuana, in Baja California state (which is in pacific coast too, besides being a north border).

In Sinaloa the most famous touristic beach is Mazatlán, but the crime, usually, stay between local gangster wars. It is uncommon that violent crime affect tourists (you could get robed anywhere in the world).

Puerto Vallarta is very tourists friendly, tourism is its main income. That is very nice not dangerous place, even may occur some local crimes, just as anywhere else in the world.

  3. I felt safe the entire time I was there, day and night. All the locals said that there is very little crime. Especially against tourists. Locals will go after anyone who tries to do anything bad to a tourist. I hope you go! I just loved PV!

  4. puerto vallarta is a great place but also a party scene.  i stayed there last summer and was robbed in my sleep.  if you do go, be careful and be sure to lock up your valuables.  luckily the only crime i know of is theft and an occasional bar fight.  i love it there and i say its worth risking it

  5. I went last year and it seemed safe.  One of the safer places in that country I think.  There are some areas in the US that appear much more dangerous, actually.

  6. I think most of the higher crime areas are in northern Mexico, around Tijuana, and la Baja.  I've heard that there is a considerable increase in violent crime against tourists, but not in Puerto Vallarta.  My mother vacations there regularly and hasn't had any problems, so I think you are good to go.  Just make sure that you do your own research before committing. :)
