I have a green spotted pufferfish who has lost some of its skin. Will it grow back? If not, will it be okay?

  1. ....injuries do occur and all injuries can lead to more serious conditions if left untreated

.... for any skin injuries whether they occur from shipping or any other situaton, even parasites or perhaps from "Ich", the skin should be treated with Melafix ( 1 oz treats ~60 gallons)

.... remove the active carbon cartridge from the filter

....if, and only if, a true secondary infection occurs then you can treat again with Pimafix (1 oz treats ~50 gallons)

  2. As long as no serious infections ensue, it should regrow fine.  However, it is very important to know what removed the skin in the first place, and prevent it from happening again.  Keeping the water warm and clean and ensuring the proper specific gravity is achieved are all paramount factors in skin regrowth.  Things like Melafix, Pimafix, and Stress Coat are little more than irritants that cause the skin to produce more mucus, but proper water parameters are far more effective at boosting the immune system.  If anything, adding a bit of methylene blue would be a good choice, as it has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties FAR better documented than Melafix or Stress Coat.
