Pui Yin casts Wang Yihan out of 2013 Djarum Indonesia Open – Badminton news
Hong Kong’s lower ranked but talented shuttler Yip Pui Yin performed exceptionally well in the opening round of Djarum Indonesia Open and defeated Wang Yihan on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
This Women’s Singles match remained in full swing for 58 minutes in the local badminton complex of Jakarta as both contenders challenged each other in all areas of game while piling up the decisive figures of 12-21, 21-19 and 21-18.
The Chinese shuttler, who was third seeded player in this tournament, lived up to the expectations only in the opening game and surrendered tamely in the final sets. On the other hand, Pui Yin showed a strong character in front of a higher ranked shuttler
and sealed a splendid win.
In first set of the match, Wang Yihan launched an intensive attack and gained an early advantage without any major trouble. She prevailed in the establishing rallies and piled up a decent total. This initial lead helped her to keep the opposing shuttler
grounded all the way to half time.
After the one-minute interval, Wang Yihan widened the gap on points table and won this set with an impressive result of 21-12.
However, things were not that easy for her in the following game as Pui Yin showed a transformed character and locked the honour in a commendable manner. At first, she looked bit confused but then few back-to-back productive rallies provided her the real
boost.
The Hong Kong shuttler did not squander this flow and placed a convincing margin of 11 before half time. She showed consistency in her performance and ruled the court in most part of the second half.
Though Wang Yihan also displayed great fighting spirit but her fluctuated performance proved the biggest hurdle in her way to success. She had to surrender after reading 19-21 score on the board.
Third set of match remained interesting till the last minute as both contenders put all they had to claim this final match point. They snapped at each other’s heels and remained close all the way to game point situation.
Finally, this tough contest ended when Pui Yin registered a winning margin of 21-18 and set up her pre quarter-final clash with Minatsu Mitani of Japan.
