Puking while running?

I have been doing long distance running for 27 years. I have noticed that since last year, after my running or between my running, i feel i need to puke. I don't eat anything prior to my running nor while running. I don't experience the same if I do walking or any other sport. What should i do to avoid this dilema. I want to continue running, is part of my life.

  1. You need to make sure you're staying hydrated well before you run, although I assume after 27 years you know that. You do, however, need to put something on your stomach before you run, like a couple of crackers with peanut butter or an apple. I've found after working out I feel like I'm going to get sick unless I put something in my stomach a few minutes before I begin streaching. Nothing heavy, but maybe 100-200 calories since your body begins looking to the stomach first when it needs energy.

Maybe its time for a change, start by eating something small (like a banana, work up to a bagel:  a great thing to have is a bagel with peanut butter and sliced banana, this could last you for a 2 hour run) an hour or two before your runs.  As we get older, our body changes and require more attention to nutrition, especially when we excersise.  We need to replenish what we lose.

    Are you well hydrated before you run?  Carry a water/sport drink with you to keep you from bonking.  (I use a hand held bottle holder and anything over 20K I use a waist bottle holder and carry gels)

    Check with your doctor, to make sure there is no underlying problems.

  3. So...Puke...its natural, i used to see a ton of people do it during Track. If you're that concerned about it go see you're doctor.

  4. well I run track and you don't want to run on an empty stomach either so 3 hours before running you should eat something with carbs that way you have something in your system, and it could possibly help stop the puking.
