Stoke City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Pulis, has recapitulated his aim of reaching the 40-point mark this season, despite the Potters scintillating recent form.
The Staffordshire based club beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 3-1 on Wednesday, and currently rest at the eighth place in the Premier League table. The team are riding on a nine-match unbeaten streak, and are yet to lose a single game at their own turf this season.
Besides that, they boast the most impressive defensive record in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, having conceded just 14 goals in their 19 matches. During this period, they kept a staggering 9 clean sheets – more than any other side in the competition.
Since the club have raced to 28 points midway into the campaign, many have started to count them in the race for Europa League qualification. Teams need to finish inside the top six in order to register a berth in the second tier European event.
Nonetheless, Pulis has urged his side not to get distracted by such over-ambitious aims. The Welshman revealed that his prime goal was to reach the 40 points mark in order to guarantee their survival in the Premier League. Once they have reached that target,
he said that only then will he redefine his new goals.
“Getting to 40 points as quickly as possible is all that matters to us at moment. That’s always been the case since we’ve been in the Premier League and it remains so now because there is still an awful lot of hard work to be done,” he told the reporters
in an interview.
“As I have stated before, only when we have reached that target will we take another look at what might be achievable over the remainder of the season.”
Though the manager is currently keeping his feet to the ground, he lauded the Potters for their achievements thus far, but cautioned them not to take their foot off the pedal as yet.
He reminded them that there was still a long way to go till the end of the season and a poor spell could undo all of their hard work.
Stoke are scheduled to play Southampton at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.
