I'm trying to learn tabs and I just learned what hammer on and pull offs are, but I use an acoustic guitar. I can't hear the second note it's suppose to give especially when.........i do 2h3p2.

Am I doing something?

Is the 2h3p2 only meant for electrics?

  1. Usually, it is easier on the electic guitar. But if you put extra light gauge on an acoustic guitar, you should be able to do this perfectly.

It is understandable that the sound carries longer on an electric guitar.

Also, when you hammer, you have to hammer hard and leave your finger on the 2nd note when you pull off with the 3rd finger.

  2. It will take you time to develop the finger strength on an acoustic to pull those off. It took me quite a while but I can get Led Zepplin's "Over the Hills and Far Away" which is hammer on and pull off - though I still have trouble with the one in Yellow Ledbetter.... Practice and you'll be able to hit it hard enough to hear and then pop/pull off enough to leave a sound.   It is NOT easy to do.

Lighter strings, and / or tune down a step so they aren't as tight will help.
