Question:

Pulled Hamstring healing time?

I play field hockey and on Saturday we had a just a morning practice with some conditioning on the track. The school run the sprinklers for the field every morning and when we got there, they started to go off. Well two of the sprinklers hit the track, and while I was running, I slipped on the water. I instantly felt a weird sensation in my Hamstring the next stride I took. I saw my trainer and he said to just ice it, and since I didn't have practice on Sunday, that I would be fine for Monday's practice. But now the later it is getting the more and more I am realizing that I am NOT going to be okay for tomorrow's practice.

So my question is how long will it take to heal? The injury is not too major, it just seems like a pull.. but I'm worried about how long it is going to take to heal.. anyone know?!

  1. Its hard to say maybe a week it depends if using the leg, resting it or going  to the physio

  2. It really depends on the extent of your injury.  If it is a minor sprain, you should be able to get back to in in a few days to a week.  If it is worse, then 4-6 weeks is the average.  I would get an appointment with your orthopedist asap to have it evaluated, especially if it is getting worse not better.  Be sure you are Resting, Icing, Compressing and Elevating (R.I.C.E.) the leg.

You would rather sit out a couple weeks than cause irreversible damage to your hamstring, right?

    Good luck
