Question:

Pulling My pugs teeth out?

Recently, we got our pugs dental check with our vet, and he says when she is 1 years old (1 week now ) she should get her baby teeth pulled out. once when she was 7 1/2 months old she had a loose tooth, and it seemed to bother her so i loosened it a lil bit and she did the rest herself. now my real question is do they put her under anesthesia or do they just give her a numbing shot?

  1. I'm kind of surprised the vet didn't see this at a prior exam when the dog was younger.

But anyway, from my experience the vet gave the girl a little gas and removed the tooth.  She was coming out of it so quickly that he had to give her a little more since the tooth was being stubborn.

Not knowing how many baby teeth have been retained it's hard to say if the vet will use gas or something like sevo.  You should ask him how he typically handles this.

If she's going to be out for a few you might want to consider a nail trim and teeth cleaning at the same time.

  2. They do put her under anaesthesia, so most people get them spayed and have the baby teeth pulled at the same time.

  3. They need to be put under a short acting anesthesia to get the deciduous (baby teeth) out.  It's a quick procedure.  We do this frequently when the pet is spayed.

  4. They will put her out for a short period.  If they just gave her Novocaine, she wouldn't be still enough.

  5. Well, usually puppies lose their baby teeth between 4 and 6 months of age.  It strange your vet said that and didn't explain this to you.  The only time they need to remove the puppy teeth is if the adult teeth begin to come in and the baby teeth don't fall out.  If this is the case, then they will put her under and remove the teeth.
