Question:

Pulling all-nighters --- how unhealthy?

in this past week I have pulled two all-nighters, one fueled by the consumption of 3 energy drinks and 2 coffees. after this first one, i slept for 21 hours, but after my second one i felt fine with a normal 8 hour sleep. how unhealthy is this? whats the worst-case scenario?

  1. There healthy as long as you don't over-do them.  One every once in a while is fine, but you shouldn't pull another for a while.  Your body needs sleep.  Next time you pull one, wait a while before you pull the one after that.

  2. Make sure you sleep WELL at least every 10 nights, or you could die.

    As for all nighters, unhealthy I heard that it reduces your life span or something, this I'm not sure is true. However I heard the 10 days thing on a reliable source (that being Discovery channel).

  3. It's very unhealthy if it's done on a regular basis. Once in awhile it's not so bad, unless you don't get the rest you need afterwords. You need sleep no matter what. Coffee and energy drinks are not substitutes for sleep. It's been shown that you could die from not sleeping and that is the worst case scenario in the long run. I wouldn't worry about two all-nighters though, only if it's often.

    That explains why it's necessary and what can happen if a person doesn't sleep enough.  

  4. This is sort of a highly debated topic. For the most part, though, experts believe it's important to try and maintain a healthy sleep pattern. Clearly, pulling all nighters doesn't fall into that category. The worst-case scenario is probably that you will burn your body/brain out. Another possibility is that you'll be involved in some sort of accident due to the lack of sleep: driving accidents are especially common. Overall, however, I don't think an all nighter here or there will really kill you. Just listen to your body and try to get sleep when you're tired!

    But you can do serious danger but both disturbing your sleeping patterns and not resting correctly. You should try to sleep properly - at a set time!

    Don't worry about it for now, but don't do it again.

  6. sorry but it goes much deeper than that. your body is at loss for its main vitamins and nutrients. you cant think clearly and your body can be at risk for virus' so be careful

  7. i do the same excat thing but i do it almost everyday i barely ever sleep but wen i do i sleep the hole day llol the worst case senario will prollly havein a totally different sleep time and just bein tired
