Pulling horses mane?

I have a horse whos mane falls on the wrong side and i was wondering if i pulled it could i get it to lay on the correct side - has anyone tried this and did it work?

I know how to pull a mane! (no explaining this please) - however i do have a contact of a experienced clipper/puller and was prob going to call her and have a chat and maybe even get her to do a really good job & have a go at it!

i have tried brushing everyday, neckrug and even leaving plaits in but it always ends up on the other side!!!

i only care because i need it to lay on the correct side for plaiting up for comps! otherwise i would leave it naturally!

any ideas?

  1. omg i just did this today to my horse red! well yea it will work but just make that its 4 fingers long in width

  2. My TB's mane falls on the left side and i show. just leave it. if you plait it right it will look fine.

  3. The only thing I have ever seen work with a really stubborn wrong sided mane was to thin the base of the mane by running the clippers up it and then gel it over.

Pretty scary and it wasn't me that did it but it did work.

Personally I have never managed to get one to flip when it didn't want to.

  4. I used to do the same thing Jeff Sadler suggested, and would also thin it working from the side you want it to fall on so it's thicker on the other side. then I used a mane conditioner and mane tamer to train it over.

  5. Can't say pulling the mane would make it switch sides.  I have always pulled our horse's manes, when I was a kid I would charge dad & grandad $5 for each horses mane I pulled. But pulling is used to make the mane shorter & look natural unlike cutting it.  I pull the length depending on the horse's neck thickness, nothing worse in my opinion than a pencil necked horse with a short mane to draw attention to it.

Anyway.....As I said, I doubt pulling will change the natural fall & growth pattern of a horses mane.

    Good Luck though.

  6. if you are going to braid it just for competition then just braid it before the show and use some hair gel then you won't have to worry about it.

  7. my friend had that same problem so they did this method and it worked beautifully, but it took time. i would suggest brushing the horses mane at least 3 times a day (like morning and night feeding plus in the afternoon once or twice) and then when you bath it try blowdrying the mane to the correct side. she would go out periodically and check it then brush it so it lay right and she also clipped a few of the short hairs on the side she wanted it to fall on so that it would fall easilyier to that side, after time less and less of the mane with be on the wrong side and soon it will stay on the correct side almost always.

  8. you can braid it slightly to one side

  9. Sorry this isn't an answer, but could anyone tell me which is the correct side??  I've never heard of that before.

    (Thank you!)  :-)

  10. Well I was going to suggest washing, product and braiding but It seemed that you have tried that. A professional would be able to give you the best advice and outcome. Good Luck

  11. To get my studs mane to fall on the other side the trainer clipped off the short stiff hairs at the base of the mane on the side he wanted it to fall on.  They were holding the mane up on that side and causing it to fall the wrong way.
