I rented a uhaul trailer in November 2007, Now 8 months later I recieved a notice stating that want my insurance information. I was rear ended on my way to move from San Diego, Ca to Wisconsin. I didn't even get out of San Diego. I bought the extra insurance and I was told it would pay for any damages done to my personal belongings that were inside of the trailer. The guy on the phone told me it wasn't. This was after the Uhaul company wrote me a check for the damages done to my belongs. Which was everything I own. I was hit so hard from behind the trailer was smashed the shell came right off of the bottom. Shouldn't they go after the guy who hit me to collect the money. They have all that information this is insane. The representative on the phone for the recovery department hung up on me, when I called back the guy who answered the phone put me on hold came back and said he was going to look into it and get back to me. Professional to hang up on someone!

  1. When you talk to them again, tell them you bought that insurance and you have already been paid for your personal property. If this accident was not your fault then yes they need to pursue the person who caused it. Uhaul insurance is probably a self insure which means they have their own employees......just like anything else, you probably have talked to people who do not know what they're doing. Perhaps the person that hit you does not have insurance and that's why they're asking for yours. Did you call your insurance regarding this matter? If you did, you could call them and put them on notice as to what's going on.

  2. I hate to tell you this but I had a similar experience with the company that handles their insurance.  I was injured and it took several phone calls and had to get very tough with them to get anything done.  Best I can advise you is to write down the name of everyone you speak to, date & time as well as the details of the conversation.  Continue asking to speak to each person's manager until you get someone who can address the problem in a professional manner.  Also, don't lose your cool, yell or swear, it won't get you anywhere at all with them.
