my dentist told me that the pulp of my tooth is dying and that's why I need a root canal. The thing is that I never felt any pain in that tooth (I know what it feels like when the nerve is dying, I've had a root canal on an other tooth earlier and it was terrible). I thought that my tooth is perfectly fine and I was surprised by that, my dentist's explanation was that I didn't feel any pain b/c of my body's defense. is this a good or a bad sign? what's with my body's defense?

Note: don't take me wrong, I'm happy that I fixed my tooth before it becomes painful but I'm surprised that it got so bad without giving me a warning.

  1. Its possible, especially if you have a cavity on the tooth cause thats where the infection drained out of. or if you have hit that tooth it reacts on the inside of it first. if you don't think it s right get a second opinion, see an endodontist they specialize in root canals.

  2. Totally possible............many dental conditions (including bombed out teeth) will not 'hurt'............

That's why it is important to have regular dental visits....

    good for you!

  3. A DYING TOOTH PULP (NERVE) DOES NOT ALWAYS CAUSE PAIN. THIS IS RARE AND CONSIDER YOURSELF FORTUNATE TO BE SPARED THE DENTAL PAIN.

I WOULD STILL HAVE THE TOOTH EVALUATED BY YOUR DENTIST-BECAUSE A TOOTH WITH A DEAD NERVE INSIDE MUST HAVE A ROOT CANAL OR BE EXTRACTED BECAUSE THIS CAN LEAD TO LOSS OF THE TOOTH AND A BLOOD INFECTION.
