  1. The other answer is a bit off.  Take a look at :http://www.tasonline.co.za/toolbox/pump/...

    You will find that the motor will need to be about 155 horsepower, 115 kW


  2. You need to get the pump curves to accurately size the motor. Typical estimate is:

    Power = Pressure * Volume / efficiency

    First, convert units:

    17.6 bar = 255psi

    1000 gal/min = 134ft³/min

    Now, use P = pressure * volume

    255 lb/in² * 134 ft³/min * 144in²/ft² = 4.9 million ft*lb/min

    Now, convert to kW and increase power for efficiency:

    4.9 million ft*lb/min /(33000 ft*lb/HP) / 0.85 efficiency * 0.746kW/HP

    = 175 HP or about 131kW.
