I want to grow a pumpkin plant indoors and i was thinking on growing the vines up the wall on chains but i worried about the pumpkins doing damage to my ceiling/walls should i grow them? and any recommendations would be helpful.

I have drywall if that means anything.

  1. I'd say you were making a big mistake.  A single pumpkin vine can cover an entire living room. Depending on the variety, some of the vines get to be massive with rather big leaves and the leaves are not pleasant to rub up against with the bare flesh.  I suppose it could be done but I've never heard of it and wouldn't try it myself.  I don't even plant the vines in the garden since they take up so much room.  It would cost you considerably for the electricity to run the lamps need to give the vine sufficient light or the leaves would turn yellow and die.

  2. Pumpkin and other squashes need LOTS of direct sunlight.  It would take lots of very expensive lighting to provide the lighting needs for it.  Way more expensive than buying pumpkins.

They are also heavy.  If you want vines in your house - there are lots of good choices for lush, wall-climbing vines that tolerate low-light and won't be  a problem structurally.

  3. That is the most bizarre notion I have yet encountered! Pumpkins not only need full day sunshine, they need LOTS of room. It won't work my friend.
