I won't do your homework for you, but will suggest you go to widipedia and look up Steven Jay Gould then "pucntuated equilibrium"  there should be a LOT of material to sift through and find a good answer

Be very careful here - Gould was an evolutionary biologist and his ideas and concepts are challenged by those who oppose "macroevolution".  One of these "discussions" lead to the concept of punctuated equilibrium, an idea which seems more interested in fighting the laws of evolution than in debating Gould's ideas.

The guy above me has an excellent suggestion - Yahoo Answers is no place to get a balanced view of the differences.  The topic is far too emotional for the yahoos who come in here.
