Pune Warriors cruise to victory: Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 – 2nd Innings Report
Needing a relatively low target of 120 runs in 20 overs, the Pune Warriors needed just six runs an over for Yuvraj Singh’s men to secure their first win after a run of consecutive defeats. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679 and Manish Pandey entered the field and took to the pitch
as they faced off against a desperate Kings XI Punjab bowling attack led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143.
Kumar came close to taking a wicket in the very first over but the appeal leg before wicket was correctly turned down by the umpire in what was a maiden first over. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 was unlucky in the next over when a thick outside edge found its way to the boundary
after two consecutive wides, in an over that eventually cost 10 runs.
Kumar did not fare any better as he went for two boundaries himself as the match looked over before the second innings even got going. It was more of the same in the next over as well, with Srivastava conceding another two boundaries before a moment of relief
for the bowling side.
Rajat Bhatia got the wicket the Kings XI so desperately needed when Ryder departed for 15 runs after being caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-Uthappa-c2356 came in and got straight to work hitting another two boundaries in the 6th over as the
Warriors raced their way to the target.
The Pune Warriors had to wait another frustrating couple of overs before the next wicket, when Harris had Uthappa caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Srivastava-c90841 on 22 runs. That meant that skipper, Yuvraj Singh, entered the fray and edged the first delivery away for four. With the
required run rate at 5.10 runs per over, the batsmen could afford to take their time with the innings.
The only danger was complacency and Pandey was victim to it when he was caught off guard by Kumar whose delivery crashed into the stumps with the batsman having scored 28 runs for the side’s third wicket. Yuvraj Singh went on the offensive in the 15th
over when he smashed Bhargav Bhatt for two fours and two sixes, at the end of which the Pune Warriors needed just six runs to wrap up the victory.
Srivastava dismissed Yuvraj and AA Jhunjhunwala in quick succession in the 16th over, but it was too little too late as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 and Ferguson wrapped things up in the 18th over to give the Pune Warriors a much needed win.
