Pune Warriors restricted to 141 runs – IPL 4
Pune Warriors gave a target of 142 runs to Chennai Super Kings in the 31st match of the Indian Premier League 2011, being played at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on 27th April, 2011.
Earlier, Pune Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket, which looked to be full of runs. The innings was opened by Jesse Ryder and Mohnish Mishra, as Nuwan Kulasekara opened the bowling attack for Chennai Super Kings.
They had a cautious start and managed just two runs in the first over as Dough Bollinger took over the ball from the other end. Ryder dispatched the first four of the innings on the third ball of the second over and the total read eight runs after two overs.
Ryder opened up in the third over and punished Kulasekara for three consecutive fours but was caught at mid wicket by Srikkanth Anirudha on the very first ball of the next Bollinger over.
Mishra followed him two balls later after scoring just two runs in nine balls, both wickets fell with the total on 22 runs.
Mithun Manhas was the next batsman to follow, who was bowled by Kulasekara for a duck and the fourth wicket of Manish Pandey was taken by Tim Southee after he scored 10 runs and the scoreboard showed 41 runs in 7.2 overs.
The experienced pair of Yuvraj Singh and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-Uthappa-c2356 took over in the middle order and shared a 42-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Uthappa went back after playing an attacking knock of 31 runs off 22 balls helped with two sixes and two fours.
Yuvraj Singh held one end and kept score board moving while the young http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Marsh-c1974 joined him at the crease. Marsh lost his wicket when the total touched 123 runs and he managed 11 runs off 15 balls.
Yuvraj posted his fifty by smashing a six off Southee on the second ball of the last over. He invaded the rival bowlers and thrashed an unbeaten 62 runs off 43 balls with four huge sixes and three fours to help his team reach 141 runs for the loss of six
wickets at the end of 20 overs.
Bollinger was the star performer with three wickets for Chennai Super Kings, Kulasekara, Tim Southee and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ravichandran-Ashwin-c84208 shared a wicket each.
The total looks achievable keeping in mind the strong batting line up of Chennai Super Kings.
