Pune Warriors second most popular IPL team on Google – Cricket News Update
A survey conducted by search engine Google has revealed that the Sourav Ganguly-led Pune Warriors are the second most searched-for Indian Premier League team on the internet, despite currently being located second-last on the tournament points table.
“On a scale of 100, Ganguly's Warriors received 31 hits, compared to 39 by Mumbai Indians. Kolkata Knight Riders fared poorly with just 13 hits,” confirmed a Google http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 representative to the
PTI.
In order of search popularity, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings are at third and fourth respectively. The Kolkata Knight Riders, who are at number 2 on the tournament
points table, are at the bottom of the search engine list.
The Pune Warriors are among the most expensive teams in the tournament, but have had a poor run in the IPL 5. However, a string of controversies have managed to keep the interest in the team alive, as revealed by the Google survey.
The team first attracted widespread attention prior to their much-hyped clash with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Ganguly (who is incidentally the most searched IPL captain) had initially captained the Knight Riders, but was ignored by the franchise in the 2011
auction.
He however, managed to attract suitors, and made his comeback to the IPL with the Warriors following an injury sustained to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Nehra-c873 last term. The current season further saw him captaining the franchise after illness forced original skipper, Yuvraj
Singh, to miss all of his team’s 16 matches this year. The clash between the two teams, scheduled for May 5 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, was dubbed Ganguly’s “revenge match”, a title that both teams’ skippers downplayed.
The survey also revealed that in West http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 (the Knight Riders’ region) the Warriors defeated the Gautam Gambhir-led side by a margin of 81-44 in terms of search popularity.
In addition to the frenzy surrounding the match, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 have also been in the spotlight owing to their poor run, and most recently a string of 8 consecutive defeats. Ganguly has come under team management’s scrutiny, with officials reluctant to speak
to the skipper about his poor captaincy, but admitting to the media that it would be easier if the 39-year-old stepped down from the post himself.
However, Ganguly has no such plans, and after being reportedly “rested” for the clash with the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 11, the skipper made a return to the side for their most recent match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals, which the team lost in spectacular
fashion, by 45 runs.
With just one match left, against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the chances of making it to the playoffs are out of their grasp, but the team still have a chance to salvage some pride at the Subrata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Sahara Stadium on May 19.
