Indian Premier League franchise Pune Warriors has suspended tainted cricketer Mohnish Mishra, whose name recently cropped up as one of the players allegedly involved in spot-fixing , as revealed by a sting operation carried out by an Indian TV channel.
“We strongly condemn his irresponsible conduct and are suspending him with immediate effect till further investigation happens. He will not take any further part in the IPL,” read a recent release by Pune Warriors owner Sushanto http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611.
The fairness of the ongoing Indian Premier League season 5 was thrown into doubt when Indian channel
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 TV conducted a sting operation which revealed corrupt practices were rampant in the tournament. The channel claimed to have footage which exposed a bowler negotiating a price for bowling a no-ball during a match, and three other players agreeing
to violate their IPL contracts by striking deals and accepting extra money from other franchises in the league.
The revelation drew swift responses from both the governing body of the IPL and the BCCI, both of whom called urgent meetings to discuss the matter. The board managed to obtain the footage and after examining it, expressed the intent to launch an inquiry
into the issue, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RD-Shah-c2298 Sawani (ex-chief of the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption and security unit) at the helm.
In addition the board also issued suspension orders for the five players in question: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhinav-Bali-c41754.
“We appreciate the stand taken by BCCI and welcome the step of suspending Mohnish Mishra,” said Roy, whose suspension of the player followed the one already issued by the BCCI.
Mishra, who has played only once for the Warriors in the current season, when he replaced rested skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 in the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 11, issued an apology and defended himself, saying his claims had not been
truthful.
The release claimed that Mishra's statements had been made only in order “to develop his value or may be he wanted to be pompous in front of others during the course of discussion and that he has not received any amount in cash from Sahara.”
“He has apologised for his frivolous and incorrect statements,” the release added.
