Pune coach Geoff Marsh blames poor batting for defeat against KKR
Pune Warriors http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders in the 65th Indian Premier League match on Thursday, May 19, 2011.
Deploring on Pune’s strong-on-paper batting line-up for performing below its potential, Marsh said it in plain words that no side in the world can win the game without posting decent runs on the board.
Sent into bat, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, smashed a thrilling half-century and led his side to a convincing victory with 20 balls to spare.
Referring to the score-card where no Pune batsman was able to cross 30, the coach termed his team’s batting effort as simply disappointing.
"The batting was disappointing. You cannot win a game after scoring 118. We lost early wickets. The boys are also disappointed. We feel for the spectators too, it was a near full house," said Marsh.
The coach described that the side lost quick wickets and it was never easy to recover from that situation. Giving full credit to Kolkata bowlers for restricting Pune side to a meagre score, Marsh explained that losing 4-5 wickets early on, put them under
immense pressure.
Furthermore, he defended Yuvraj Singh’s decision to bat low down the order. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 made it clear that Yuvraj had a strategy to add quick runs in the death overs but unfortunately that did not work at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, he spelled out that the batsmen have no excuse for demonstrating such a poor performance as there are some quality players in the Pune line-up, who failed to prove their worth throughout the tournament.
"We have no excuses. We have not played good cricket (through the tournament). Our bowling unit has been consistent but our batting group has been inconsistent and has struggled to score runs," the former Australian cricketer added.
Commenting on Pune’s next and the last game of the season, Marsh urged his players to come up with an improved performance and win the upcoming game for the sake of their pride and respect.
