What is the punishment for a Lawyer who commits Libel Per Se ?

  1. Libel is a tort claim so it would be some cash settlement.  The amount of cash the defendant would have to pay would depend greatly on the circumstances of the case.

    That being said, the the attorney made defamatory statements while in court, s/he enjoys immunity from defamatory statements.  If it was a comment made in the service of a lawsuit, then you are out of luck.  


  2. Same as anyone else that slanders another, but "Such claims are considered so obviously harmful that malice need not be proved to obtain a judgment for "general damages," and not just specific losses."

    So the injured party doesn't have to prove damages.
