Punjab Cricket assures foolproof security during the World Cup
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 Cricket Association on Saturday assured foolproof security arrangements during the three ICC World Cup 2011 matches to be played in Mohali, Chandigarh.
MP Pandove, the PCA Secretary said that since the tournament would be played under the International Cricket Council banner, the governing body is itself looking into the security arrangements and the Association is cooperating with it.
“As ICC is holding the World Cup, they have hired a retired DGP-rank officer to draw up overall security plan for all the eight centres in India, including the PCA,” said the PCA secretary while talking to media reporters. “Our association is also extending all cooperation to the ICC and local police in ensuring foolproof security for the three matches.”
Pandove revealed that the ICC has had meetings with the Union Home Ministry as well to ensure foolproof security at the World Cup venues.
“The retired DGP who has also handled the Commonwealth Games security-related issues has also had a meeting with top police brass of Chandigarh and Punjab,” the Association secretary informed the media.
The Punjab Cricket Association has been given a total of three World Cup matches to host which includes two group stage games and one semi-final fixture. The group games would see http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 on 11 March while the semi-final is scheduled for 30th of the same month.
Joint Secretary of Punjab Cricket Association, Mr. G S Walia said that the Association was all set to host the three high-profile games.
Walia also told the reporters that the ticket prices for the two group stage fixtures have already been announced and their sales would begin on 21 February.
He said that tickets for all the three matches would be sold at two outlets at the Punjab Cricket Association and at announced branches of the Central Bank of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. He added that the online sale of the tickets for group matches is already underway.
