Punjab’s Fencing Federation announces one-week coaching program in Sindh

Punjab’s Fencing Federation (PFF) has announced to conduct a coaching programme for male and female fencers in Sindh.
The programme will be open to all the existing senior players of the Sindh division. It will be held for one-week under the supervision of the Head Coach, Syed Shafqat Ali. The coaching programme will be run in four weapon disciplines namely Men’s sabre,
epee, foil and women’s sabre.
A PFF official said the venue and final date of the coaching programme will be officially announced after the PFF’s board meeting, expected to take place next week.
A PFF official and the Women’s Sabre Team’s head Coach S. Shafqat Ali have also indicated that a fencing tournament in both men’s and women’s discipline is also being considered to be arranged in Karachi. An official announcement of the event’s schedule
will also be made following the board’s meeting.
Many Muslim countries have been hosting senior fencing events for several years. Pakistan’s neighboring countries like China, Iran, Iraq and India have an old history of the sport.
However, in Pakistan fencing is not a famous sport; even though measures have been taken to introduce the sport throughout the country, it has failed to grab popular appeal.
In 1999, a group of people took the initiative to form the Punjab Fencing Federation to arrange domestic and national events.  It started off with introducing training courses to promote the knowledge and tactics of the sport. With the passage of time, it
has now been introduced in a few schools in Punjab, with young players fighting with swords in school fencing competitions.
