Punto was on first, he tried to steal, Oakland threw the ball to first to get him out, but then he ended up on second, because the first baseman did something 'illegal' whats that called?? what happened?

I think it was a balk.  The pitcher stepped towards home on the pick-off attempt.

At least if it's the same play I'm thinking of.
