Question:

Puppy Dog Sick Question?

My puppy dog (15 lbs.) ate quite literally a granule of mouse poison, after consulting with both the veterinarian & poison control they both told me he would be just fine, & if I was extremely conservative to give him a bit of vomit inducer. I did so, just to be sure it was not in his system, about 20 minutes after ingestion, and perhaps it was just really strong with him, but after he threw up a bunch for about an hr. he shakes a lot, could someone tell me if it's just normal for him to shake after throwing up like this?

I'm willing to bet he's just shocked after throwing up so much, but I just wanted to consult with another pet-owner to make sure

I really appreciate this, your answers will help me *incredibly*!!

  1. I know I shake after I vomit so I think it's normal.  I'd call the ER vet just to make sure though.  How in the world did this happen?

  2. Your best bet would be to call the vet and discuss this with him..  explain that you called earlier about the dog eating poison and you were instructed on indicing vomiting, and ask if the symptoms he is having now are normal.

  3. I have heard of pets shaking after vomiting, so very normal. I hope he is ok...Very weird to hear a vet saying he would be fine after eating poison as many times vets fear this as being a death sentence for pets if not caught in time. Please just monitor your pup.. I hope he is better soooon.

  4. Get your dog to your vet!!!!!!!

  5. Yes, it is completely normal. I work at a pet spay and neuter clinic and dogs vomit all the time from the anesthetic. They shake because they are scared and do not know what is going on. You did the right thing.

  6. shaking is natural after throwing up.

i am pretty sure he will be okay by morning.

trust me, my puppy has been getting so many injuries lately its scary.

  7. was it die con?I am not trying to out guess your vet but it is possible he got a dose of poison that his body is trying to get rid of.Watch him close. If this goes on much longer get him to a different vet.It is possible he is weak from vomiting if he barfed a lot. Also his electrolytes can be low.I would go get him some pediylite and that would be all I allowed him to drink for at least 24 hours. That can be found in all places that sell products for human babies it is used when a child needs to be hydrated but it also works on dogs really well.Tilks Mom
