Question:

Puppy bitten with fireants?

I see there is a few answers on here about fire ants, but I think my case is a little different. My puppy didn't lay in them or anything, 2 or 3 bit his nose and on his lip, and that's just about it. Is there anything I can do at home? I called the vet and they said just to put socks on his feet so he doesn't scratch it and to call my regular vet. We just moved out of state and don't have a "regular" vet yet. Any suggestions?

  1. I don't think a few bites will hurt him.  Just keep him from scratching so he doesn't make the bites worse.

  2. This happened to us once on a trip to Texas. We stopped on the side of the road to let the dogs relieve themselves and one got bit really bad. I used sting relief bug wipes on the bites that trip. Also bathing the animal in white vinegar takes the sting out and is safe for doggies. Keep away from eyes only because it does sting but will not cause any harm otherwise.

Poor little angel. I hope the puppy is better soon. ♥ ∞

PS: When the bites make a hard spot, they can be carefully 'popped' with your fingers to relieve the pressure. Should make the dog more comfortable.

  3. If they are bothering him,you can give benedryl. For a young pup the dose is .5mg per lb of body weight although a more can be given under supervision of the vet.

  4. Put a baking soda peroxide paste on the bite marks.  Need to keep him from l*****g the paste though until you remove it after 30 min.
