Puppy mills how to shut them down!?

I want to be that person who goes into puppy mills and shuts them down. Does anyone know I can become that, or how I get started. Would that be considered animal control. Any and all information you can give would be wonderful.

Thanks

  1. The more people that try, the better. Animal control??? Probably not...if they have shelter, food and water and seem healthy, animal contraol can't and won't do anything about it.

You are better off looking into groups in your area that are against puppy mills.

Step # 1 - DO NOT BUY A PUPPY FROM A PET STORE...they are all from puppy mills or backyard breeders. No reputable breeders will sell to a pet store.

Step # 2 - DO NOT BUY ANY DOG FROM AN INDIVIDUAL unless they can show you the parents, pedigree papers, puppy's registration and health certificatees on the parents....if no such...WALK AWAY!!

THere are too many people making a buck, especially now on "designer dogs" (Golden Doodles, Puggles, etc)....They are going for MORE THAN PUREBRED DOGS!!! And, there can be NO GUARANTEES to health and/or coat/disposition, etc.

GOod luck to you...I hope you will make a difference...

I recently reported a "puppy mill" in my area...She had 15 dogs...(some adults, some puppies) one pregnant with about 13 puppies still about for sale (above and beyond the other 15). It

made no difference to animal control....I called the by-law officer regarding the number of dogs in the house (the house STANK - SHE TRAINS THEM ALL ON NEWSPAPER ONLY - THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE!)....At 7 month of age, none of them puppies from that littler had had any vet treatment or shots...

So far, there is no resolution but she is being investigated.....

I hope she burns in He**

The dogs are totall wild and uncared for - they are Maltese (supposedly - but no papers....hahahahah....surprise)

  2. They are legal, if the animals have shelter, water, food, ect... So if the dogs are in good general health legally nothing can be done. In fact its was are own USDA that started this mess . Failing crops,ect... USDA convinced farmers to raise puppies for profit. You can get involved with a rescue group & educate people why they shouldn't support unethical breeders. They breed by supply & demand. If there is no one to buy, they'll find other ways to make a living.

  3. I'm pretty sure they're not illegial. You'd do better volunteering at a no-kill animal shelter or going on thehungersite.com and care2.org. Good luck.

  4. Yes, that would be animal control.

But you have to realize that there are some horrible sights to be seen when doing this type of work. You may want to help the animals but make sure you have the stomach for it. and it can be heartbreaking.

Try going to a local vet or law enforcement, different cities have different organizations to deal with these problems.

  5. There are many groups around that shut them down, so confront an animal rights group, and they will check it out. If there is anything going on there that is not suitable for a dog, they can go ahead and take action. If you are having trouble finding a group near you, ask a local vet or use google. Puppy mills should be shut down, so good luck with your journey!

  6. start with the humane society (spca) some police  stations have animal control officers, but keep in mind the conditions have to be what we may consider pritty bad. if they have food water and shelter even if it's covered crates in most states thats enough. sometimes even several dogs in one crate. obvious illness with out vet care can also shut them down, physicall abuse etc..

  7. I'm sure that many people have tried already. There are big organizations that can't get the job completely done. The problem is that when they shut down one, another will start up somewhere else. I think it is great that you are going to do this. My belief is that one person can make a difference. Some people, including myself, feel like it is too big of a job to try to accomplish so they don't even try. We need more people like you with the drive and heart to do something about it. My suggestion would be to start by contacting your local humane society to see if they have any information or ideas to help get you started. Good luck and I hope you follow through with your goal.
