my gramma just got a puppy. it's a papillon. it's very small and hyper and loves the flavor of my toes. i wouldn't mind if she nibbled, but she likes to dig her mini-razors into my toes and pull. it hurts, alot. and i always get in trouble for screaming at her. what is a way i can discipline the puppy so it learns not to bite toes? because yelling obviously does not stop it.

  1. I watched a show called It's Me Or The Dog on Animal Planet and Victoria Stilwell, the dog trainer, yelled "AH AH!" then clapped her hands to get the dogs' attention.  After repeating this many times, the dogs stopped.

  2. Put a handful of coins in an empty plastic soda/water bottle.  Whenever she bites, shake the bottle loudly at her, and say "no bite!"  if she backs off, pet her and tell her she's a good girl.   If she bites again, repeat the shaker bottle.

Edit:  DO NOT EVER spray a dog with water!!!  That is a ridiculous and inappropriate method to use on ANY dog, and especially one so sensitive as a Papillon puppy!

  3. Spray bottle! give her a spray and say NO every time she does it. My husky started mouthing at me i.e. standing barking at me. It took two sprays and I just had to lift the bottle and she stopped. I would be careful about bottle rattle as it can lead to a nervous dog whenever it hears a similar noise. sorry but a spray bottle is ok really. I also have a chihuahua so I am used to tiny dogs as well. It is a liitle spray of water not a blooming fire hose!
