  1. No, if they grow up together. They will play all the time. I have an aggressive female Saint Bernard and recently brought home a male Westie. I just carried him in and kept turning around so she could smell his back end.(thats how they like to meet other dogs.) She has loved him ever since and he follows her around like she is his Momma. So there you have it, BIG and Small are fine.

  2. they will be fine.  You will just be walking 2 dogs, bathing 2 dogs, picking up after two dogs, vet bills..... and of course...which one of you two (insert exp) sh&t on the carpet and ate the leg of the couch?

I am raising 4 right now.  they are 4 months old and they WILL bond to each other as siblings because you are the parent/head of the pack. BUT, they will also bond with you.

The upshot is if you let them sleep with you (I do let mine).  Then you won't have to worry about some idiot breaking in while your asleep and you probably won't need a blanket come winter!

    Good Luck!

  3. If you raise them together then they'll be like brother and sister (or either way) But if you raise the separately you might have some problems.

  4. You REALLY don't want two puppies at the same time, no matter what they are - puppies form their bonds starting around 7 weeks of age, and go from there.

If they grow up together, they will bond to each other, not to you, and they won't listen to commands from a human very well - they'll be too busy ratting around with each other.  That can be a life and death difference, when they get older - what if you couldn't keep them?  Then you would have two unruly hard to train dogs - and no one would want them.  That's how dogs end up being euthanized at the pound, when they aren't trainable.

In addition, you never want to have tow puppies playing together that are not the same size - the little one will get very badly hurt, end up with a deep muscle injury and limp fo the rest of its life.  Not a good plan, really.

You need to decide what you want - one adult, and one puppy - but I strongly suggest you just pick one.  Otherwise, you cannot do justice to both, and one or both won't get the attention they deserve, no matter how hard you try.  It's just the way it works.

  5. maltese then the rottwiler would probably be better because the rottwiler would probably rough with the maltese puppy

  6. haha having both big and small dogs are fine, they just need the right training. currently, i have a korean jindo (medium sized) and a saint bernard (extra large size)--and they are BFFs. my jindo is a year older than my saint and he helped in training her and corrected her behavior when she was a puppy, and now its so cute how they both look after each other.

but the problem with getting two puppies at the same time is that the puppies tend to bond with each other more than with the owner and it's more difficult to train them, because they will just ignore you and play with each other. and under most circumstances one turns out to be the good dog while the other doesnt, depending on their individual personality.

trust me, i made a mistake and got two jindo puppies from the same litter at the same time a couple years ago and i had such a hard time. my current jindo grew up to be the perfect dog while his sister didnt turn out to be that great of a dog, and in the end, my grandma decided to take her in and raise her. and now, after lots of re-training, she is a perfect angel.

so if you really want two dogs, then get one dog first and after a year or two, get another one. and it really doesnt matter what dog you get first, but just keep in mind that the puppy will grow up acting like the older dog. but chances are that the maltese will be the alpha anyways..haha small dogs seem to have that effect.

  7. well rottweiler's can be a little rough but i really dont think it would KILL IT! lol it may rough house with it but nothing to dramatic

  8. I would think it would be fine as long as they're young. But if they're not young it would depend on their disposition, how they were raised, and treated. Me personally, and I'm speaking from experience, its not the most fun thing to raise more than one puppy at a time. You have to take them out constantly, train them, vet expenses, you get the picture. Just think on it long and hard.

  9. If you buy them at the same time, that would be a good idea. Try to get one male and one female, because if you get two of the same genders, they might compete. If you can't afford two at a time, get them separately, but get the maltese first, because when it is full grown, and you get a puppy rottie, then i doubt the maltese will kill the rottie. But to avoid conflict, you should buy some books, or ask your vet how the proper way to introduce a new dog to the family would be. Never introduce the puppy at a higher lever then the grown dog, and never introduce them face to face. Face to face means i want to fight you, and if you introduce the puppy at a higher level, the puppy is going ot be dominant over the other dog, and the other dog might try to bite him. So make sure you know how to introduce them before you do. Pros and cons between the breeds.. well, rottweilers have lock jaw, which means that when the dog bites something or someone, his jaw locks, so he won't let go until he wants to. They can get aggressive if they are not properly socialized, but you've had one before, so i'm guessing you are experienced with this breed. Maltese, they are smaller, so less food, smaller poo, they don't shed. But you also have to keep them groomed, they get snappish if irratated, they also have weak stomachs and can be difficult to house train. You should visit

    www.dogbreedinfo.com

and research the breeds you would like. You should never buy a dog when you don't know much about it. Good luck, and have fun :)

  10. it depends on the disposition of the dog i have two chihuahuas and one of them is very friendly with all of our pit bulls the other is very skid-dish and barks at the big dogs when she sees them. she will get around them only if she can explore them without them paying attention to her. cant really tell you in what order to get them if you don't do it at the same time because you never know exactly how that dog will grow up to be like. my older chihuahua does get along with all 5 of our large dogs. 4 pit bulls and a golden retriever Australian shepherd mix.  my young chi though runs and barks and wont go around them. oh and dogs DO NOT get euthanized because they are untrainable that is the dumbest thing i have heard today!! dogs get euthanized due to over population and all kinds of other things. i know people who get dogs from our pound that they cant do a thing with but they like that personality. and you can always attempt to train a dog, spending one week with that dog wont do it and thats about as long as they get in a pound anyway because of OVER POPULATION

  11. Dogs like packs. The rot will probably think it is part of it's pack since your getting them together

  12. Well socialized, and raised together dogs are friends.... i would watch carefully when the size difference gets more pronounced as they will be playing (sometimes quite rough) and can accidently get hurt. but i would have no other reservations, as the others pointed out dogs are pack animals and naturally social

  13. I had both at the same time. I had my Rott for 2 years before I got the Maltese, but they were used to the small dog as the breeder of the Maltese was a friend and had been around with her dogs. They did great together, except that maltese are a little more dog aggressive and was the alpha male and would literally hang from the mouth of my Rotts by his teeth.  They seemed to be ok with him being the boss too. They are pretty laze-fare
