  1. Corn (and some other grains) can make some dogs itchy.  Other than that, food allergies are actually kind of rare and it's a good thing, too.  Food allergies can start showing themselves with a swelling around the dog's mouth.  This can progress rapidly into the swelling shut of the throat which will kill the dog.  Plain old itchiness can be caused by a lot of things.  Inhalant allergies, caused by things the dog inhales, such as pollen, cologne, dust or fumes are quite common.  Some dogs can take Benadryl for them (you have to go to the Benadryl website for the dosage) and others need something else.  Fleas and mites cause itching, scratching, biting at the skin.  If the hair is disappearing at the base of the dogs' tails and up their backs a ways, you may have flea bite allergy.  It only takes one flea bite to set the allergic reaction off.  Once the skin is broken, it can get a bacterial infection which can be hard to clear up sometimes.  I would first try giving both dogs a good flea shampoo and spray every where they have been plus wash their bedding thoroughly.  I wouldn't give the dogs any medication until the vet had a look.  Many, many things can cause itching.  You don't want to mask important symptoms that the vet should see.

  2. It very well could be the food. My parents have a Bernese Mountain Dog who is highly allergic to all grains, and most meats, so must be fed a specialty diet. When he is fed meats or grains, he scratches intensely for long periods of time. You may want to contact a local Emergency Vet and ask them how much Childrens Benadryl would be acceptable to give your dogs, based on their weight. That should calm the itching, and is what my vet recommends for my parents dog.

    Best of luck.

  3. well u can go to walmart and get this soap for dogs its to stop them from itching its in a white bottle with white writing it will stop them from itching it but i doubt its allergies they might have demologic mites which is the same as mange mites good luck

  4. You can try giving them a bath with an oatmeal based shampoo.  There isn't alot you can do without going to the vet because it could be more than just an allergy.  It could be mites or fleas as well.  You can try a little neosporin on the wounds and try to maybe put a shirt on them to curb the itching.  Good luck I hope they feel better.

  5. Its probably not the food. When you go to the vet make sure they do a skin scarping to check for mites. You can put coortisoothe on them to help with the itching.

  6. You could try bathing them in a pet shampoo that is made with oatmeal.  This will help ease the itching.  If it was the food it usually takes about two weeks to notice a big difference in their skin and coat.  Try feeding a food that does not contain corn, wheat, or soy. Good luck.

  7. You can give a childs benadryl tablet and bath them with a mild, hypo allergenic shampoo..try regular head and shoulders..put some vit E oil on any really dry itchy spots and get to the vet as soon as you can

    Good luck

  8. Depends on what you are feeding them..  It probably is food allergy.  DO NOT feed anything that is from a grocery store or walmart or Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba.   DO get canidae http://canidae.com and put in your zip to see where to get it in your area.  Other good foods with NO CORN or by products or wheat or gleutens or soy are Wellness at Petco, Solid Gold, Orijen, Merrick, Eagle Pack Holisitc, Innova.  STAY AWAY from the corn, soy, gleutens and wheat and by products.   Give the food a week.

DO not use hydeocortisone unless the vet tells you to.  If it's mites or parasites, it'll only make it worse.
