Purchase a house or live in the dorms?

i am currently a sophmore (with only 12 credit hours though), attending community college in san antonio. i plan on eventually transfering to texas state in san marcos. by the end of next year, i will have at least $10000 in the bank. My dads gi bill will pay for my tuition so that wont be a problem.

So would it be better to just live in the dorms where all the money will go into someone elses pocket or purchase a house?

i plan on attending texas state winter of 2010

If you can purchase a house with just $10,000 in the bank you must live in a seriously horrible place.
