Purchasing a Car Out of Province... Who Insures It?

Ok, here's my situation.

I am originally from BC (current driver's licence) but am temporarily working in SASK. I have found a great deal on used car in ONT.

I would like to fly over to ONT to purchase the car and drive it back to SASK and hold it in storage until i am ready to move back to BC.

Which province needs to insure the vehicle for the drive from ONT to SASK?

TY in advance.

  1. Which ever province's plates you put on it.  To even get a 10 day trip permit (temporary plate) to drive it out of Ontario, you will need insurance from a company licenced in Ontario to sell auto insurance.

Or, if you can try to get a temporary plate/trip permit from Sask with the VIN from the Ontario car,  and will need Sask insurance.

3rd option is to call ICBC, and see about getting a BC trip permit and ICBC insurance to bring it out.
