Was the earliest age to buy cigarettes in the early 90's 18 as it is now? I was very young then and can't find the answer online. Thanks.

  1. In most places it was 18, but many stores sold them to anyone old enough to hold money. In the late 1980s 5 year olds could buy cigarettes anywhere in Alabama.

    Ah, the good old days!

  2. In New Zealand it was 15 but they raised it to 18 in the mid 90s.

  3. It was still 18 but I don't think the stores were as strict back then as they are now. I remember my mom would send me to the store to buy her a carton when I was 13. She wrote me a note and they sold them to me. I don't think that happens much today.
