Purchasing new car seat...?

So, tomorrow I am going to go buy a new car seat for my daughter. Right now she is still in her infant car seat at 13 months, which needs to stop since she is at the weight limit now. She is still going to be rear facing, but I am not sure which car seat I want to buy. I have narrowed it down to 2 and just want some opinions on which to buy or if you have one you would recommend that is under $100!

These are the 2 I am thinking about:

  1. Jess,   I strongly advise the first carseat. I ordered it for my son and he likes it. Its real comfy. I checked ot the ratings for myself and I wanted something not expensive with padding. Since my Walmart doesn't have them instore I ordered it. And it reclines!

  2. Hey Jess. I bought the Evenflo Triumph for my son. It's a bit more than you'd like to spend...like $50 more...but it's easier to adjust with out having to uninstall it, then re-install. I think that will make life a bit easier when it gets around winter with the snowsuit on some days and off others. Plus it's rated just as well for safety as the Britax but 1/2 the price! Otherwise I'd pick the Evenflo you chose.

  3. You seem like a very informed person!!!  Cheers to you!!  Remember, they can be rear facing for the first year or more, depending on their  weight.  I think it is very important that you look into a 5 Point Harness (type) car seat.  5 Point Harness means, 2 shoulder straps that clip together and 2 straps that come up from the pelvis area and clip.

I have a 5 yr. old boy and a 3 yr. old girl, and I still have both of them in a 5 Point Harness.  I think it is important to use all the straps that the car seat comes with.  It should clip in three different areas, (1)using the car seat belt, another (2) using the very bottom (tether) and (3) a strap (tethered) to the very back top of the car seat.  Most cars after 2003 have clips deep within the seat.  Get the ENERGY and find them!!!  Your baby will be safer.

In other words, just educate yourself on all the straps provided and USE THEM and get a 5 P. Harness System!!   Go to www.youtube.com and type in 5 Point Harness. Read a few of the stories.   Many people understand the importance of this type of car seat only after a loss.   Remember KYLE!!!   You will do fine  XXOO

  4. I like the evenflo one. I like it because it's cutier. And also I like the brand. Most of my daughter's things when she was really little were evenflo.

  5. I got the evenflo triumph advance lx and I love it. you dont have to remove the straps to adjust them. I got it on clearance because they are coming out with a new fabric. I think the new ones are 140? maybe?

  6. I can't afford a $300 car seat either- I feel the ones you picked are just as good if not better than those that cost that much anyways. I like the Graco one for looks (it is so cute ) and appears to be really comfortable. But the Evenflo one is just as good and is a name I really trust- I have a stroller and carseat from them and they are great products. So if you are okay with the colors and look of the Evenflo (it is nice too) it is just as good as the Graco, it would be the one to get.

  7. THE best one to get if it is avail where you are is the pegasus ones ...they have anti submarining and will take her to 7 ( here in Aus they say we need to have our kids properly restrained till then)   its $129 AUS

make sure you get one with anti submarining

  8. Both Evenflo and Graco are good names.  I have considered both of these seats as possibilities for my own child.  They are equivalent seats, the user reviews on both are great, and the safety ratings by Consumer Reports are equivalent.  At this point, it becomes a matter of which fabric you like...

I did not choose either for my child.  We do a lot of long-distance driving, and I have found the Britax models are better for this.  However, they are more than twice the price range you are looking at.  But the two models you mention were certainly considered, particularly for the value vs price.

  9. Just an idea I dont know if you have them where you live. Try Big Lots I got my car seat from there when my 6 month old out grew his infant seat in length. You can find really good car seats there really cheap. I got one for $80 and was looking at it at Target and it was like 150.00 or so. I cant run out and spend that kind of money either.

  10. JESS- If you haven't left yet...I would like to suggest this one

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d...

that way you will NOT have to get yet another carseat once she outgrows either of those (40 lbs) this one goes all the way to 100 lbs and is only 129 so not that much over your budget..I know its a little more but this way you won't have to buy another seat and you will actually SAVE money on it...

Let me know what you get!!

  11. thee best and safest are the britax dont b cheap its for the safteyness of your daughter.
