If you buy a product for e.g. a tub of hair wax that costs £5.68 overall with post and package that's outside the EU e.g. Hong Kong

Do you need you pay something like VAT or something like that?

I won't be charged by something really small right?

If I do get charged what happens for e.g. Do I need to pay straightaway

I heard that my friend had to pay by cheque when he purchased a camera abroad.

If I do need to pay VAT or whatever, can I do this in other methods like using a debit card because I don't have a cheque book ?
