Pure Gossip ruled over the Belmont Park turf course and bagged the Miss Grillo Stakes against 7 other fillies
Rolling in 4th in her last start, the juvenile 2-year-old filly, Pure Gossip, advanced emphatically to down seven other 2-year-old fillies with odds of 23 to 1, by a massive margin of 6 ½ lengths in her third career start, the Grade 3, $100,000
Miss Grillo at Belmont Park on 2 October, 2011.
The Philip Serpe trained 2-year-old filly turned some heads when she broke her maiden in her first attempt going into the race with odds of 37 to 1 at Saratoga on 22 July, 2011, at about 5 ½ furlongs on dirt.
She nailed the 5 ½ furlong distance in 1 minute and 4.89 seconds, leaving behind her closest rivals, Lenders Way and Wildcat’s Smile, on the way, who finished second and third, respectively.
Saratoga offered another dirt sprint at about six furlongs on 1 September, 2011, the Anne M. Clare Stakes, which reeled in 6 fillies.
Pure Gossip rolled in 4th despite shell shocking opponents and her own connections in her maiden special weight race previously. Harbor Mist won the race with a winning time of 1 minute and 11.51 seconds.
In the Miss Grillo Stakes, Pure Gossip, under jockey R Curatolo, came off the rail in the upper stretch against seven other fillies, as Take It Inside peaked right after the break and bolted past opponents through an opening half mile.
The half mile distance was covered in 48.99 seconds by Take It Inside, as Pure Gossip angled on the outside, taking advantage of the daylight between horses and got into lead with a furlong to go.
The New York bred filly passed her turf tryouts in flying colors as she sprinted to hit the wire ahead of Mystic Mama and Bourbonstreetgirl, who finished second and third.
Pure Gossip took on the distance of 1 1/16 miles for the first time and she topped the distance in 1 minute and 47.41 seconds.
The Miss Grillo was the stepping stone to the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, and the Flying Zee Stables owned filly is nominated and will be supplemented to the Juvenile Fillies Turf for a fee of $100,000.
