Purple Spider?

Question

Um. My dad was working today, and he saw a spider that he had never seen in his life before. He said it was:

DARK Purple, with a whiteish cream coloured bubble butt, furry looking, and its front legs where short and apparently they looked like pincher things. Or something.

Hahahahahahahahahaha....

Any help on what type of spider that could be?

My first guess is it sounds like it was probably some species of crab spider, but I'm not sure. Where did he see it?
