Purple paint?

Question

OK, I live in the Midwest and I do not hunt, but why in the World wold there be purple paint on trees? Is it some kind of hunting thing?? No trespassing thing?? There aren't any signs anywhere along the roads with the paint on the trees..what's with the purple paint?? It's just a purple splotch on them along the road every so often.

this could be for the electric company to mark trees that are in the way of the power lines,and are unhealthy trees that could fall on power lines.Pace out the splotches they could be a type of survey marking

They are marking someone's private property.
