  1. are you serious?

  2. Basically it was to clarify the reasons why this new charter of government was developed. The delegates who did it were not given the commission of writing a whole new Constitution. They were gathered in Philadelphia to make amendments to the Articles of Confederation. So, the preamble told the members of the Continental Congress and the people of the nation why they decided to write a whole new charter of government to replace the Articles of Confederation. A modern version would be a memo which reads: "Boss, I know you sent me to do (A). But, the other guys and I decided that wasn't good enough. So we decided to do (B).".

  3. Like Jefferson's BRILLIANT writing of the declaration of Independence, Madison and company were also good writers. As such much like an introductory paragraph, thesis or abstract, the preamble states the purpose of the constitution. The who what when where why and how in a nutshell.

Who - the people of the united states

what - constitution of the united states

    when/ where - the us

why - "in order to establish a more perfect union... "

    how - establishing a constitution
