Purse Fun rolls in the Hollywood Starlet Stakes success at Hollywood Park
The Kentucky bred won the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes on 8th December, 2012 at Betfair Hollywood Park over 1 1/16 miles, has become one of the favourite fillies. The two-year-old filly, Pure Fun, had the trip completed in a minute :44.65 seconds.
Blonde Fog took off as the pace setter while it was the synthetic debut for the two-year-old out of, Chelsea Green. Pure Prize’s daughter closed in on the pace setter when there remained around sixteenth of a mile to be covered.
"She jumped away well, but I was a little bit concerned because she was not traveling her best around the first turn," Gomez said after riding the chestnut filly for the first time. "About halfway down the backside, she started figuring it out and when I wheeled her out she was really accelerating. She took off and was very impressive."
The mount under jockey, Garrett Gomez, won by a length straight in a row and a third time through the eight career outings.
The trainer, McPeek, made the decision to send the juvenile filly in the Grade 1 race after she had won an optional claimer by 9 ¼ lengths on 24th November at Churchill Downs.
The filly who was trying to make her case for the Eclipse Award, Executiveprivilege, with the backing of three Grade One successes this year, failed to the fourth position without any apparent reasonable excuse.
"All of a sudden she gave a great burst of energy about six or seven wide around all those horses. In Kentucky (in her prior start) it was the same kind of thing--around the quarter pole she came flying.”
The second best filly in the field was, Blonde Fog, who kept Scarlet Strike at bay by good two lengths.
The race won Pure Fun $260,000 prize money that raised her career earnings to $343,599.
The only time that she competed in stakes was in the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes on 11th October on turf at Keeneland.
Her future targets have not been made public by the connections yet, however, this success will raise her chances for future lucrative options. She also cleared her stance over synthetic surface through this chance.
With a fourth ending, Executiveprivilege, has set brighter chances for the rest contesting for the Eclipse Award.
