Question:

Pursuing higher education in USA?

Hi, I am a 4th year dental student of a private school in Egypt. I would like to pursue a higher education and an internationnally recognized certificate from the US. However, some dental schools offer programs like "Advanced placement dentist" (UMKC in Kansas doesn't offer this program). That is dentists graduated from countries other than US and Canada will be placed with 3rd year dental students provided that they pass the requirements and interviews. The tuitions are very high. As a consequence, my dreams and hopes for the future are dashed. In spite of all that, I am still thinking about applying a year ahead before I graduate but I don't know which school to apply: US or Canada or any European one. I am a US citizen born in Kansas and I also have aunts and uncle, citizens of Canada. I also want to know if there is any school that can help me prepare for the Nat'l Board part 1 exam. I am very confused. Thanks

  1. In all honesty, given the current prices of things, I would say your better of finishing your studies in Egypt. If you no longer wish to stay there, then I would suggest London as the credentials tend to be better there (nevermind the long running jokes about british smiles), the training more serious which would serve you better in the long run than a easier less focused course. Again, I would say you are best off in Egypt- it has produced some of the finest surgeons and other medical personnel in the world in the last twenty or so years. The same goes for London, to a lesser degree.

You also didn't mention what sort of citizenship you currently have. Depending on where in the world you choose to live, the requirements may differ so you will have to check (and I am certain you will be taught if you attend a school in the counry you wish to take your tests and practice in). The best way to do that may be to contact directly the ADA and ask them some of your questions. Good luck!
