  1. Nice speakers. They are passive, so you need an amplifier to amplify line level output on your computer (1 V) to something that can send at least 20 W to your speakers. Maybe you have an old stereo amp around. Otherwise, places like AMS sell relatively low-cost amps.

Or you may want to look at powered speakers from Logitech or Creative Labs. They start at $60 for something reasonable to several $100's. You also could look at M-Audio or Behringer powered speakers. Those are semi-pro brands that have some decent solutions under $100.

  2. These do look good, but you'll need a separate amplifier and that might be a bit much. Plus, you'll want to position them a few feet from your ears so they'll sound right.

If you want some awesome computer speakers though, I'd recommend the Klipsch Promedia 2.1s. These sound incredible, their high clarity and extreme clearness puts some home theater speakers I've heard to shame (none from big brands or anything, but they kick the **** out of low quality brands such as Samsung, Toshiba, or Bose). They are very low distortion and go pretty loud. They get plenty of great midbass and just sound awesome. These are my preferred computer speakers, I have yet to hear a pair of computer speakers that could beat them (including the Logitech Z-2300, which many people say is better, but I did a head to head comparison in the store and the Klipsch pair was still better). Good luck.

If you really really want to use these Sony speakers though, you'll need an amp and a 3.5mm headphone jack-to-RCA cable.
