I have a Prius with the JBL sound system + Navigation system. The radio gets lousy reception, is it possible to put an after market stereo in there without losing the nav system or do I have to replace it all?

  1. oh man you might have to replace it all.....does it look like all one piece?

  2. I'm a master certified installer, with 20 years experience...don't do it!!!  most probably you need to check the antenna and/or connections and put in a new antenna, but leave the deck alone

  3. Do not let anyone tell you to take out that factory navigation.

The display is much more than a radio.  Your a/c, vehicle diagnostics, and body control module (computer) can be damaged. not just the radio.

The radio and the vehicle antenna are mated for the best reception possible.  An aftermarket radio will give you less reception, not more.  If your reception is less then when you first purchased your car there could be something else causing reception loss.  If you had window tint put on, a metalic based window film will block am/fm/gps/sat radio reception.
