Question:

Put bicycle without a crossbar on a bike rack?

I have one of those little bike rack thingies that attaches to the truck of my car. My bike, however, doesn't have one of those annoying crossbars. Maybe I'm just overlooking something simple, but I'm having a hard time mounting the bike on the rack. Any pointers?

  1. Let me try to explain this... hopefully you have a standard womens bike and not a full suspension model.

The joint where the headtube (where the front fork goes in) and downtube (the tube that goes towards the cranks) is a good place for one "arm" of the rack, then the seat cluster- behind the seat where that little frame "triangle" is, just in front of the back wheel- is good for the other "arm".

If it just won't fit that way, you can either get a "top tube" which temporarily attaches to your bike for carrying, or you MIGHT be able to turn the bike upside down and carry it by the wheels. Carrying by the wheels is safe as long as the wheels are installed correctly.

  2. Here is a top tube adapter that will do the trick.

  3. You can buy one of these adapters:  http://www.amazon.com/Yakima-Womens-Susp...

That will allow you to put your bike on a trunk or hitch rack.

    Hope this helps.
